The ‘5-R’ in Social Equity-Inclusion
5 R – i) Recognition, ii) Representation, iii) Respect, iv) Reparation, v) Reclamation
CSEI recognizes the critical need to embed social equity in the pathway to promote equality. Equity measures are particularly important to overcome inequalities and unequal opportunities caused by exclusion (caste, gender, religion, (dis)ability, sexual orientation, and many others). CSEI advocates for purposive, proactive measures to promote social inclusion. The 5-R provides a framework to map, measure, and provision for ‘social equity inclusion.
Social Equity Audits
Social Equity Audit (SEA) provides a tool to assess how institutions, policies, or provisions impact the social equity of diverse groups in society, where social equity refers to the treatment or privileges social groups have in society. CSEI uses the 5-R framework to conduct SEA. SEA insights can make an organization’s practices more equitable.
Community Led Organisations (CLOs)
In 2012, CSEI recognized ‘community-led organizations (CLOs)’ which are civil society organizations promoted by members of marginalized communities to promote the rights of their communities. CLOs have an in-depth connection and sustained presence in the local community. They provide the best option to reach the ‘last-mile’ communities, reaching communities where government services are negligible.
Youth Equity Forum
CSEI evolved the Youth Equity Forums (YEF) as inclusive safe spaces where young people from diverse marginalized communities converge, communicate, and collaborate in their journey from ‘self to society’ affirming their identity, experiential learning, and appreciative inquiry.
Fellowship Approach
CSEI extends ‘fellowship’ as an equity measure in engaging and empowering young girls and boys from marginalized communities to pursue learning, explore opportunities and empower their communities.
